Research, Evidence & Communication

A gateway to understand Nepal, told through seven decades of data.

Thousands of archived documents and time-series records, traced back to the 1950s — when Nepal first stepped onto the world stage and took its earliest steps toward democracy. Nepal in Data turns that history into evidence researchers, planners and citizens can put to work today.

About Nepal in Data

Nepal's first independent, not-for-profit epistemic centre

Nepal in Data is Nepal's first publicly accessible data and statistics portal, built by a not-for-profit organisation, bringing together development data spanning from 1950 to the present under one digital roof. Founded in 2017 as an initiative of Bikas Udhyami, a Kathmandu-based social business, Nepal in Data was created to close a long-standing gap: researchers, students, journalists, planners and policymakers across Nepal often had no single, reliable place to find, compare and use credible statistics about the country's development.

Today the portal hosts datasets across the sectors that shape everyday life, including agriculture, the economy, health, education, governance, infrastructure and the environment, alongside maps, infographics, government reports and academic publications drawn from both official and independent sources. Beyond hosting numbers, Nepal in Data works directly with government bodies, civil society organisations, academic institutions and development partners to design surveys, conduct policy research and strengthen local data systems, including those at the provincial and municipal level, where Nepal's federal structure has made reliable data more important than ever. Every dataset, study and visualisation we publish is guided by one simple belief: better evidence leads to better decisions for Nepal's people, and that conviction is exactly what sits behind our daily work of research, evidence and communication.

What We Do

Five services, one purpose: better evidence

From raw datasets to finished policy briefs, our work spans the full life of a piece of evidence — collected, investigated, taught, visualised and archived for the long run.

01

Data Management

Collecting, cleaning, standardising and archiving development data and documents so it stays accurate, accessible and easy to retrieve over time.

02

Research & Survey

Designing and running surveys, field research and policy analysis on Nepal's economic, social and political issues to inform decision-makers.

03

Training & Capacity Building

Workshops and tailored training in data literacy, research methods and knowledge management for students, professionals and institutions.

04

Data Visualisation

Turning dense statistics into clear charts, infographics and interactive visuals that communicate findings at a glance.

05

Document Archive

Digitising and safeguarding thousands of government reports, studies, photographs and historical records so Nepal's institutional memory stays accessible for generations to come.
