The tunnel digging work under the Melamchi Water Supply Project was completed on 10 April 2018, fifty years after a committee to address water crisis in Kathmandu Valley was formed. Asian Development Bank (ADB) is the major contributor of the total project construction cost financing 39% of the total construction cost of $ 235.31 Million.
