MTPD helpline receives around 35,000 complaints on traffic rules violation

The Metropolitan Traffic Police Division (MTPD) has received around 35,000 complaints on traffic rules violation in the current fiscal year 2017/18.

The MTPD received 34,752 complaints in its hotline 103, a grievance hearing mechanism on traffic violations in Kathmandu valley.

As many as 1,118 bike robbery cases, 20 large vehicle robbery cases, 522 vehicle to vehicle hit-and-run cases, 304 cases on belongings left in the cabs, 26,108 cases of footpath parking and 6,680 complaints by passengers on exorbitant fares were registered in the helpline.

According to MTPD Joint Spokesperson, Mukunda Marasini, the complaints have been taken care of by calling the closest police unit in the related cases to take legal action. “If not found immediately, the vehicles mentioned in the complaints have been subject to action even on a later date through a search operation,” Marasini shared.

The MTPD has launched a special campaign against cabs that do not abide by the metre-reading rule.

The Joint Spokesperson added that a special team deployed from the MTPD is deputed to take action against such cabs that do not want to charge fares on metre-reading basis. “Earlier 25-30 cabs fell under legal action on a daily basis which has now increased to 60-70 cabs per day,” he said.
