KATHMANDU: Nearly two-thirds of the budget allocated for Kathmandu Tarai Expressway has remained unspent.
The budget remained unspent because of the delay in approval of the Detailed Project Report (DPR) prepared by the Nepal Army, an official at the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport told Republic.
Meanwhile, Nepal Army has returned 63 percent of the allocated Rs 15 billion, or Rs 9.5 billion, to the ministry. The army had planned to award the contract after completing the DPR.
“Nepal Army returned the unspent money to the ministry earlier this week,” Shiva Hari Sapkota, the spokesperson for the ministry, said.
